The International Standardisation Organisation opened its annual convention today in Geneva, Switzerland.

A report was issued by the organisation, which is composed of acoustic experts. It warned that noise levels in the world are rising by one decibel a year, and that should the increase continue, “everyone living in cities could be stone deaf by the year 2020.”

The report also noted that long term exposure to a noise level of 100 decibel can cause deafness.

Delegates from 51 countries are attending the convention which will continue through to Sunday.
