In Victoria, it is estimated that every five days, someone chokes to death on a hot dog.

The Journal of the Victorian Medical Association said today that hot dogs are “perfect to block a child’s airway” and that children under 4 should “never be given a whole hot dog to eat,” adding that they should never be cut crosswise.

Other risky foods for young kids up to 9 years old age include lollies, nuts, grapes, apples, carrots and popcorn.
