A male driver has died and two firemen hospitalised when a collision occurred at the intersection of Post Road and Rollins Avenue at 7:10 this morning. The firemen were responding to an emergency call, and their condition is not known at this time.

The deceased driver, Charles Welles, was travelling in his van at a speed estimated at 60 km/h and was killed instantly as his van struck a fire engine with its lights and sirens in operation. The fire engine was travelling an estimated 40 km/h and was responding to a report of a shop fire. It was, however, a false alarm.

Authorities have not yet determined who was at fault.
