A tragic error caused by the morgue has left the family of Kristine Belcuore grief-stricken, as it was discovered that the family had buried the body of another woman, whose corpse had been unclaimed for a month.

Belcuore died of a sudden heart attack, aged 51. Due to the unexpected nature of her death, an autopsy had to performed before the funeral last Saturday. The family spent more than $7000 on the big funeral, with more than 100 friends and relatives in attendance.

The error was discovered after the medical examiners office realised the month-old corpse had disappeared. It is suspected ‘someone probably misread an identifying tag,’ they said and that the family ‘never viewed the remains’ as the casket was closed during the proceedings.

A relative said, “We went through all the pain and everything, all over the wrong body, and now we have to go through it again.”

The State Medical Examiner has since offered his apologies for the accident.
